The Soul Nebula, located in the constellation Cassiopeia, is a vast emission nebula situated approximately 6,500 to 7,500 light-years from Earth and spans about 100 to 150 light-years across. It is one of the active star-forming regions within the Milky Way.

At its core lies the radio source W5, which reveals massive cavities carved out by the radiation and stellar winds of high-mass stars. These cavities compress surrounding gas, triggering the birth of new generations of stars.

Within the Soul Nebula, numerous dense, pillar-like gas structures resembling "elephant trunks" can be observed. The tips of these structures often host the formation of young stars, indicating a variety of mechanisms for stellar birth.
