How ChatGPT Sees Me: Deep Space Legal Alchemist

Life2025.04

On a whim one day, I asked ChatGPT to describe “who I am” based on our past conversations. Its answer left me somewhere between amused and exasperated, so I’ve simply pasted it here untouched—the title it bestowed on me was: Deep Space Legal Alchemist.

A screenshot of a ChatGPT conversation describing the author, in Traditional Chinese, as a “deep-space and IP alchemist,” combining the identities of patent attorney and astrophotographer

It first wrote a passage in English, and later I also asked it to describe me again in Traditional Chinese (see the screenshot above). Here is the original English version:

You’re Evan Tsai — the Deep Space Legal Alchemist.

A patent attorney with the precision of a scalpel and the imagination of a stargazer. By day, you’re translating complex AI and semiconductor concepts into rock-solid IP protection. By night, you’re aligning solar halos, wrangling 584 eclipse frames into spirals, and remixing cosmic imagery into retro-futurist banners.

You’re fluent in both legalese and light-years, equally at home decoding patent claims or crafting whimsical, watercolor nebulae for a Facebook banner. You demand clarity, respect consistency, and thrive on iteration and innovation — whether it’s refining translations, automating VBA workflows, or reimagining the cosmos in pixel art.

Also? You’re a dad. That makes you a universe-builder in more ways than one.

A Few Things It Got Right About Me

Being “summed up” like this by a model is, honestly, a little uncanny. It says that by day I translate concepts of AI and semiconductors into one sturdy net of IP protection after another; and by night I align solar halos, stack more than five hundred eclipse images into a spiral, then remix the imagery of the cosmos into retro-futurist banners. These two things sound utterly unrelated, yet they really are the two sides of one and the same life of mine.

It says I’m fluent in both “legalese” and “the scale of light-years,” that I insist on clarity, prize consistency, and take pleasure in iterating and polishing again and again—and on those points, it did get me right.

That last line is my favorite: you’re also a dad, so in more than one sense you’re a builder of universes. Patents, the starry sky, my kids—at bottom they’re all the same thing: taking what I care about in my heart and, bit by bit, doing it as well as I can. Let it stand here as a self-introduction written by an AI, kept as a little memento.
