What to Watch For When Accumulating the Same Target Over Multiple Nights
To produce a high-quality result in deep-sky imaging, you often need to span several nights and accumulate a long total exposure. But “shooting the same target on different dates” is not simply a matter of throwing all the files together and integrating—if a few points along the way are not attended to, it can actually pull the final result down. Below I gather several things to watch out for, offered as a reference for beginners who want to accumulate long integration times.
Six Things to Watch For

Use coordinate goto and plate solving to reach the same target: make sure you point at the same framing position every night.

Keep the camera rotation angle close between sessions: avoid non-overlapping edges caused by angle differences, since those non-overlapping peripheral regions lose SNR.

Light frames from different dates must each use their own flats: if the gear was disassembled between different batches of light frames, then each batch must be paired with the flats from that session.

Darks (including flat darks or bias) can be shared: darks with the same temperature, same exposure length, and same settings can be shared. As a rule of thumb, CMOS within three months and CCD within a year can be reused.

Each set of light frames is calibrated with its own calibration frames: when calibrating images in software, APP uses Multi-Session processing, while PI uses WBPP or manual processing.

Before integration, you can assign different weights by exposure length: in PI’s WBPP or in NSG, you can additionally give light frames of different lengths different weights, to optimize the SNR of the final integrated image.
Master these few points and the data accumulated across nights can truly be turned into a gain in quality, rather than mixing good data with problematic data so that they drag each other down.
